Sayam has a great deal of knowledge of bamboo, as did his father before him, and his father before him, and his father... and so on, and so on... He brings that knowledge to our project of the bamboo bike frame. He has studied in depth, the intricacies of the Great Grass. He knows how to grow it, how to select it, how to cut it, how to treat it, how to join it, how to finish it, etc... And even though he knows so much, he still studies bamboo nearly everyday in some fashion.
Sayam recently retired from managing the art school he founded in Bangkok, and is searching for a way to help the Hilltribe people in poverty to make a better living. He recently returned from leading a group of Swiss tourists into the high mountains of Laos. His heart was pulled heavily by the poverty he saw in the desperate people along the dirt roadsides. Maybe we’ll add a “Laos” model to our line up someday.
